History of Our Corps – December 25

Good morning Leathernecks, and on this the 25th day of December in the history of our beloved Corps:

It’s Christmas wherever you are deployed.

Semper Fi, Marines

Since 1775, Each year all over the world on Christmas, Marines have guarded our national. Security.

In 1917, the 9th Regiment arrives at Guantanamo Bay to further reinforce units guarding the U.S. sugar production capacity.

In 1923, the 10th Marines and elements of the East Coast Expeditionary Force embark at Quantico on the transports Sirius and Chaumont to serve with the U.S. Fleet during winter maneuvers in the Caribbean.

In 1926, the Rochester lands Marines and sailors to establish a neutral zone at Rio Grande, Nicaragua.

In 1943, the Army’s Americal Division begins relieving the 3rd Marine Division.

          The 4th Marine Base Defense Aircraft Wing headquarters arrives on Tarawa.

In 1947, in China five Marines on a hunting expedition cross into territory controlled by the Communists.

          In a subsequent firefight, one is killed and the others are taken prisoner.

In 1955, HMR-152 and 352, stationed at El Toro, fly food, clothing, and medical supplies to flood-stricken areas of Northern California.
