In 1969, during the period 27 February through 8 May, Marines of the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines and the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines participated in OPERATION PURPLE MARTIN, a clear and search in the Quang Tri Province.

In 1969, during the period 29 May through 23 June, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions, 7th Marines, the 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines and the 51st Regiment of the ARVN participated in OPERATION OKLAHOMA HILLS, an operation southwest of Da Nang, in the Quang Nam Province.

In 1847, Marines from the Portsmouth’s ship’s detachments and sailors go ashore and take San Lycas, Mexico.
In 1878, a detachment of Marines arrives at Le Harve, France on board the Constitution to serve as the honor guard for the American exhibit at the Universal Exposition.
In 1885, one day after receiving orders to form a battalion from East Coast detachments and barracks, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Heywood sails from New York to Panama with 10 officers and 212 enlisted.
In 1929, the last Marines from the Special Service Squadron return to their ships as part of a general drawdown of Marine forces in Nicaragua.
In 1942, Admiral Nimitz is given a second responsibility as Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Ocean Area (CINCPOA-command over a geographic theater) in addition to his existing billet as Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet (CINCPAC-command over naval forces).

American dead in the Vietnam War (33,641) now exceed those in the Korean War (33,629).
In 2003, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Marine Harriers participate in a major attack on a Taliban camp north of Spin Boldak, Afghanistan.
