History of Our Corps – November 6

Good morning Leathernecks, and on this the 6th day of November in the history of our beloved Corps:

In 1827, Marines prepared to fight pirates at Andros, Greece.

In 1854, the morning report showed the Marine Corps totaled 63 officers and 1,389 enlisted men.

In 1932, Marine and Guardia forces oversee the free and fair election of a new Nicaraguan president.

In 1942, the 2nd Raider companies set out from Aola to track down enemy elements escaping the encirclement at Koli Point.

In 1943, the second echelon of the 3rd Marine Division, including a battalion of the 21st Marines, arrives by sea at Cape Torokina.

In 1945, the 6th Marine Division provides 1/29 to reinforce 1st Marine Division rail guards on the lines near Peiping.

In 1967, during the period 6 November through 17 November, Marines of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines and the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines participated in OPERATION ESSEX, a search and destroy operation in the Quảng Nam Province.

In 1983, Staff Sergeant Farley Simon becomes the first Marine to win the Marine Corps Marathon.
